View Full Version : What are you most looking forward to at E3 this year?

Ok, so we all know E3 is a big event when it comes to news for the industry.

Normally i would be excited to hear what the next Hardware offerings are etc. This year, im keen on software, i dont care about OnLive or PSP 4000 or PS4 or xbox 720 and not even Wii:HD i want to see software. I want to see them bring out software that makes the current hardware scream in agony. I want them to milk every processor, every flips flops, every polygon until the console nearly melts.

I want E3 this year to impress me via software, NOT hardware (that includes add ons etc).

What are you guys looking forward to for this years E3?

If I must get my hopes up that this will be good...

Half Life 2: Episode 3
Portal 2
Pikmin 3
news that Gears of War 3 development is ongoing
Miles Edgeworth: Perfect Prosecutor english release
Ace Attorney 5, preferably that it has more Phoenix Wright characters in it.
A device to plug into the wii-mote, that enhances it, and makes it more responsive and better. And don't tell me they already announced something like that, because they still haven't released it, about 9 months after telling us about it. Cammie could have had another rediculous child in that amount of time. Or gone skiing.

- Sakurai keynote
- Pleasant suprises on Wii and 360.

Being dissapointed.

That's it rgiht there.

Didn't even know it was coming up.

It's in July now isn't it.....?

Just to be fair i've heard they brought it back to old school. Getting the gamers involved and such.
Getting it more to the core gamer again.

Though i'm not too sure how that will go.

However i'll join the game here
This is what I want to see from them.

Nintendo:
Monster Hunter 3 trailer 2(this game looks sweet and I would like to know more)
News on the forgotten franchises have they given up on them? Or do they have something? Starfox, F-zero, Kid Icarus, etc.
DSi games: Mario Dsi game hopefully. Other core Dsi games.
The next Fire Emblem. If there is one. Or even a small teaser.
Zelda for Wii news.
More Wii Ware and DSi ware news.
Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics trailer.
Wii Sports 2 news and trailers(a complete sport list maybe)

Sony:
Final Fantasy 13 news: Possible trailer and release date i'm hoping.
Anything else that looks cool is a bonus. Still new to Sony's side.

Other:
More info on where Mortal Kombat could be heading if anyone has bothered to buy it.

Boo!

And I'm getting curious as to Mario's next console adventure, loved Galaxy. I'm not really in the group of those grasping for Wii Zelda info though, I can wait out for that one.

My earlier joke post aside, I wanna know what EAD Tokyo and Yoshiaki Koizumi are up to. With DK: Jungle Beat and Super Mario Galaxy under their belt, they're one of my favourite Nintendo studios and he one one of my favourite directors. A new Donkey Kong or Mario platformer from them would be brilliant. Something completely new from them would be just as good, if not better.

I'm hoping to see a few big shake-ups, but I realistically expect a very conservative year to get past financial hardship. But seriously things aren't expected to get better for 3-4 years, I expect that eventually things will return to business as usual upon the realisation that a bad economy is a bad reason to change your economic plan.

Didn't know about the merge?By most accounts the merger had very little impact on Blizzard's operations. But either way, Blizzcon is still on this year, so it shouldn't be the least bit surprising if Blizzard keep that as their main forum for big news, as they have in the past.

Yeah, it will be good to see what Obsidian can do with Fallout: New Vegas, given that the company was founded by Feargus Urquhart and other ex-Black Isle employees.

Well, if it's genuine, that slim PS3 does look a fair-bit worse than the original, but in saying that, I know quite a few who have been looking forward to a slim PS3 for some time. As long as it deals with heat fine, it's all good.

Last time sometime told me they knew more than I did, was from a classmate in grade 3. Well done on breaking the drought.

But thanks Gus for clearing that up. What was the point of the merge then anyway if they stil run as independent companies with independent income? I figured that a merge is a merge, and that means two companies are held by the handcuffs - obviously that's not the case (and it's a fact I know less than Yoshi).

Actually I have better right to question what you said as you made a generic sweeping statement "I know more than you." I questioned if you knew specifically on the merge of the companies, and not stating something subjective as fact. You never implied you knew of the merge, as there are advantages for both companies to go into E3 under the same booth. There's opportunity for cross-promotion of games. My question to you totally made more sense and was more appropriate.

You don't reckon I've used the word 'KNOW' in other contexts?

Doesn't matter anyway, I don't take offence to irrational sentences in forums.

I haven't really paid much attention to industry news as of late so I'm not really hyped about E3. Firstly, to avoid potential offense or confusion, you clarify with what you're referring to as opposed to a simple blunt statement. I interpret how I see it. Other users did too. That's why people thought it was uncalled for. But this is old, trivial news now...

Secondly, I never said you were wrong or preceive you as wrong. I asked an honest question "Didn't know about the merge?" not to say "Yoshi you lack knowledge" but to ask "are you aware of the merge?" as I thought at the time that while Activision and Blizzard hold seperate studios, I thought it would make sense to cross-breed or cross-hype games between companies, especially at an event like E3. Obviously I'm mistaken. You obviously interpreted my post as something I didn't intend. Don't ever think what I said to you was meant to personally demean your knowledge in any way, and I apologise if it somehow did :S

This time, next week, we'll know! Here's my dream-list of stuff announced at E3....

- Cammie announces early resignation or Reggie announces he fired her. Fans rejoice (Chance: 2%)
- Gameplay demonstration of Red Steel 2 with the announcement that it comes with wiimotion plus, and will get free DLC or downoadable mulitplayer. (Chance: 60% if you exclude DLC wishes)
- New IP from Retro Studios is an open-world action-adventure game with some of the best visuals the Wii has seen (Chance: 40%)
- Super Smash Bros: Minature Mayhem announced for DS. Wi Fi and map creator confirmed (Chance: 15%) Chibi-robo, Ray MK-III, Elite Beat Agents, and Megaman are confirmed newcomers. (Chance 5%) Christopher Walken becomes a last minute suprise unlockable (Chance: 0%)
- Nintendo sizzle reel shows off a shat load of promising games - more fan rejoice. (Chance: 45%)
- F-Zero Z confirmed for Wii (Chance: 30%) with online and track creator (Chance: 20%). StarFox Wii also confirmed with a full blown co-op experience (drop in-drop out), open world map in between missions, online dog-fights and optional Wiimotion plus support for 'joystick' cockpit control scheme (Chance: lol).
- NO new peripherals shown. (Chance: 70%)
- Mortal Kombat Adventure on wii with wiimotion plus for specials and fatalities (Chance: 0.1%)
- Suda 51 comes on stage and announces optional wiimotion plus use for beam katana. Shows off 2 minute trailer inc. in game footage. Everyone yells with glee. (Chance: 40%)
- Reggie publically apologises for greenlighting projects from Popcorn Arcade and 505 Games. Has assured Wii owners that most of those responsible for shovelware have been fired from their respective companies. (Chance: Hell frozen over)
- Cliffy B comes on stage: "I've always wanted to feel the ripple of a chainsaw beyond the confines of a button press. That's right, Gears of Wii will be heading this holiday for 2009! It's gonna be bigger and more badass than 2." Trailer shows unreal 3 engine playing on Wii. Minds. ****ing. Blown. (Chance: negative time and space)
- New sizzle reel of just what devs are doing with wii motion plus. A couple of quick demos shown on stage (Chance: 50%)
- Iwata and Miyamoto arrive on stage - deliver a speech so heartwarming and inspirational, even the Sony fanboys are crying. (chance: n/a)
- Aonuma arrives on stage. Shows off Zelda Wii trailer which looks like a water colour anime come to life. (Chance: 10%) Confirms 'Tingle Shooting' minigame. Wiimotion plus and playable Ganondorf and Zelda confirmed. Wiimotion plus for all weapons including Sheik's chain are shown. Difficulty settings confirmed. (Chance: too good to be true) Aonuma announces demo of Zelda Wii is now avaliable worldwide on WiiWare (Chance: fgsfds)
- Reggie comes back on stage. Shows either a totally new character-driven IP, Kid Icarus, 3D Mother 4 or Sakurai's secret project. (Chance: would create a blackhole if occurred)

Like you I will be keeping an eye on this for sure. Good to see it's not an on-rails shooter, I love 'em and all but EVERYONE seems to be announcing these at the moment.
More games like this for the Wii would be awesome. At least 1 developer has noticed the huge hole in the Wii's software lineup (that being games that are original and not aimed at the younger demographic). If only more devs took notice. Sega are off to a good start with Madworld and now High Voltage are following suit. Sure The Conduit has been done a 1000 times on 360 but on the Wii you can just about count them on 1 hand.

I have new game to get excited about and that game goes by the name of GLADIATOR: AD!

yeah but unfortunately games like madworld haven't set the world on fire with sales, and that's what developers are looking at.

but then again i remember one of the developers saying, the 'hardcore' gamer crowd on wii is significantly less, so it doesn't matter if you don't sell millions, as long as you sell it to all the 'hardcore' gamers, it can be seen as a success. i have no idea how they'd identify that number though...

I asked an honest question "Didn't know about the merge?" not to say "Yoshi you lack knowledge" but to ask "are you aware of the merge?" as I thought at the time that while Activision and Blizzard hold seperate studios, I thought it would make sense to cross-breed or cross-hype games between companies, especially at an event like E3.I gave you an honest answer too! It just wasn't the answer you were looking for it seems. My post was not an insult towards you, I was just pointing out that you knew 'of' the merger and perhaps only very little about it. Otherwise you would not have asked the question in the first place. To use a gaming analogy, basically I called you a newbie and you acted like I called you a noob.

Oh, and you are contradicting yourself there. You say that you didn't percieve me as wrong, and that you 'thought it would make sense' for Blizzard to be at E3. Whereas I had stated that Blizzard would not be at E3. :)

But it was clarified, that's what the quote was for. I'm directly referring to the quoted text in my post.

To me, this:Is the same as:

Thinking something makes sense (Blizzard at E3 with Acti) and knowing something for a fact (Blizzard actually not at E3) are actually two different things. Notice how I never quoted Gus who never made an ambiguous refefrence or statement. Maybe you don't realise that 'I obviously know more than you...' is quite a confronting and blunt phrase and is stated as if objective. Again I'm not offended, but for future reference, it's just as easy to say 'but that isn't the case. *reason stated*' instead of making any reference to me or you. Obviously THAT is implied.

It wasn't the content of your post, it was how you worded it. Oh bloody hell I'm sound like a linguist. Can we just talk about E3 crap now?

Pikmin 3 (99.99%)

If it has online co-op w/ Wii Speak, then it will be must-have for me.

On-line co-op would be mind blowing.

you also missed star fox wii (25%)

Also, for Smash Bros DS: http://www.gamesradar.com/f/the-top-7-games-we-want-announced-at-e3-2009/a-20090522141640810012

Star Fox is there under same dot point as F-Zero. StarFox does have a better chance than F-Zero, although I'd be much more hyped for the later.

I'm looking forward to E3 this year, should be fun, regardless of what actually turns up. :) Looking forward to seeing what Kojima has been working on. Today's countdown reset and PS3+PSP Famitsu brought along fantastic renders (seemingly using the MGS4 engine) of both Big Boss and Raiden, so, a bit hyped for what it turns out to be. MG5? MG5 + MGS:PO2? MG Remake + MG5? Soda? =D I might watch all three confrences this time, just for funsies.

Rumour: New Super Mario at E3 2009?

In slightly shocking news from Nintendo, it looks like the father of Mario and Zelda, Shigeru Miyamoto, will not be taking the stage at the company's E3 press conference in LA next week, kickstarting rumours that a new Super Mario game could well be announced at the show.

Miyamoto has been more focused on the family-friendly Wii titles in recent times, with experts suggesting that the decision not to push him forward this year could herald a return to the more traditional Nintendo core games.

"Not to put the great man down but this is a good omen for the hardcore Nintendo fan," says Editor of NGamer, Nick Ellis.

"In the last two years, Shigsy has used the press conference to announce Wii Fit (E3 2007) and Wii Music (E3 2008). Perhaps his absence from the stage this year means we'll be getting some of the announcements that we wanted last year, such as a follow up to Super Mario Galaxy."

The news that Miyamoto will not be at the press conference will disappoint Nintendo's legions of hardcore fans, many of whom see Miyamoto's annual arrival on the E3 stage as one of the heartwarming highlights of the entire show.

For many, Nintendo's creative powerhouse represents all that is fun and innovative about gaming (and he often provides some much-needed light relief from the marketing and sales hyberbole from the men in suits).

Fanboy dreams

Of course, we (along with every other Nintendo fanboy worldwide) will be secretly hoping that Miyamoto arrives on stage at the end of Nintendo's presentation to announce a new outing for Mario, Metroid and/or one of Nintendo's other major iconic gaming franchises.

Nintendo has confirmed that Miyamoto will be in LA next week throughout E3 week doing the old behind-closed-doors presentations.

TechRadar will be on hand at Nintendo's E3 conference next Tuesday to bring you all the latest news from the Japanese gaming giant, where Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime and new face Cammie Dunaway, Exec VP of Sales will be running the show.

Rumour: New Super Mario at E3 2009?

Source: http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/rumour-new-super-mario-at-e3-2009--602716

Prediction =/= Rumour.

Why does that guy think Miyamoto not attending means a new Mario will be shown? It makes no sense. Less so, given the fact that Mario Galaxy is one of the most recent big titles on Wii. Its far too soon to show a new Mario game... Unless its New Super Mario Bros. 2 for DS.

If anything, Miyamoto not being there is almost a reason not to expect a new Mario game. Or Zelda for that matter. He'd be the one to show those games of for sure.

That being said, regardless of Miyamoto's presence, I suspect a Wii Zelda will be shown.

Doubt it dude, would love it if it happened tho.
Kid Icarus has probably the highest chance of appearing out of all of the possible 'hardcore' franchises just because of all the buzz/dissapointment surrounding it at last years E3 (due to IGN rumour fail), i highy doubt even that will happen tho.

I reckon we will be massively dissapointed, im with tsphoenix on the 1st page of this thread.

Thing is, they've been working on a Wii Zelda since before they said Twilight Princess was coming to the 'Revolution'. Back then they were adamant about insisting that TP was only coming to Gamecube and another Zelda was already being worked on for the next console. So technically we havnt had a Wii Zelda yet, just a gamecube port. They've been working on it for at least 3 years, maybe even 4 or 5. Obviously Im not 100% sure, but Id say other than Pikmin 3, Zelda has the highest chance of being shown.

What\'s everybody using for streaming the conferences? I went with 1UP last time and the stream ran almost faultless, I think I might just go with them again for all three conferences, plus liveblogging the Konami, S-E, third-party conferences. etc. Stolen from GAF, these are the Australian times for the E3 conferences... Tuesday Morning June 2nd: MICROSOFT 3:30am est; EA 7:00am est; UBISOFT 10:am est;;; Wednesday Morning June 3rd: NINTENDO 2:00am est; SONY 4:am est. (I\'m still not sure if Tasmania is an hour behind or in front. Can someone in Victoria/NSW/etc tell me what time this post is marked as? kthxbai)

Your post was at 10:20.

I watched it on 1up last time as well it was good, I don't think I'll watch it again as my nets will crap itself. I'll just read the news the next day. If I were to watch it again though I would go through 1up as it didn't disappoint last year.

Well despite my internet being capped, I was able to wake up early and watch the Nintendo E3 conference using my off-peak time. And... well let's see:

New Super Mario Bros Wii
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Metroid Other M
Legend of Zelda: Sprirt Tracks
(Very maybe) Dead Space Wii
The Conduit
Wii Sports resort
Red Steel 2 (better not dissapoint)

all quite interesting. However, I am quite dissapointed, because they left out a crucial bit of information I had expected from them:

Where did Cammie go on holiday this year?
