The National - Runaway.

This song took me by surprise. I mean the whole album is a fairly bleak affair, full of self deprecation... However he's usually quite measured in how he sings the songs, kind of distancing himself from the actual words. This song on the other hand is full of emotion, it actually sounds like it's physically exhausting him having to sing about what he's singing about like he's putting everything he has into it.

Great album, and this song is without a doubt a stand out track.

Well, that's a shame. I can't disagree with you more, but everyone's got their own opinions. I know I didn't particularly enjoy Neon Bible on first listen, but it grew on me quite a lot. The Suburbs has got me hooked from the get go, despite initially being daunted by the number of songs. I think the variety of the album keeps it from being anything but boring.

Still, some alright bits here and there. I liked they way they did that sound in Decapitate, I thought that was pretty clever and worked well. Burn in Hell was alright, also it sounded like it could have been lifted from a Mega Man game. Abductors - ZOMG IT'S TROGDOR!

Fixed. Seriously though, have you listened to the album much? Lots of people are saying it's a grower (personally I was really enjoying it from my first listen). IMO, there are so many highlights on the album, and I have trouble seeing how someone might consider it boring. I think there's a strong argument in saying The Suburbs is their most consistent album yet, which is quite an achievement, considering its length and how good Funeral and Neon Bible are.

Yeah I've listened to it and can't make much of it either. It's certainly different to anything they've done before. The lyrics are meaningful but the tune isn't as catchy.
