What is available in the way of free OCR software.

Windows, Linux or Mac programs are fine, in that order of preference. However accuracy is more important than the platform.

Basically I want to take a bunch of pictures with dumb filenames and rename them depending on the label on the image. Each image has only one line of text and is in a consistent small font for the most part.

Right click image > Rename

I'm sure there's a program out there for that. But beyond www.google.com I can't help.

You can have a cookie for trying Jader. I was thinking more along the lines of optical character recognition.

I have a program called SubRip that can do it for VOB files, I just need something that can do it for a set of PNGs.

But seriously, you often get a bunch free with scanners and the like. I don't know how good or available they are, sorry.
