So, a few people know already that Square Enix are brining this awesome looking 2D game to PAL markets in 2008. What they don't know is that '2008' really meant March 14th 2008 (http://kotaku.com/358575/odin-sphere-dated-for-europe) for us (well, at least Europe, but theres always importing for impatient people if we don't get it on the same day)

If you don't know anything about this obscure PS2 classic (which is quite possible on an Australian Nintendo forum) you can always check it out on wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odin_sphere) or a more respectable game news site. Personally I'm still being blown away by the detail in the game and would say its one of the, if not THE best 2D games made. However, the release date is KILLING ME because it is only 12 days after Persona 3 hits Australia. Now I really need to hope I get lucky with bday money this year so I can pick up both of these and still have enough left over for Fire Emblem in March.

Strange that Square-Enix are releasing this as it isn't a Square-Enix game, but kudos to them.

I don't mind Odin Sphere, but aside from nice graphics, music and story, the game isn't really that great. The combat feels really dated (no hit-stun, combos or tweaks of any modern beat em up) and was a real let-down. The mixing and inventory systems are poorly done and difficult to manage as well.

It's really nice to look at and there are quite a few characters with different attack styles, but haing to revisit the same few locations and fight the same bosses over and over again killed the appeal rather quickly.

I think it's a decent enough game though and worth picking up for around the $60 mark. It'll probably be a fairly limited release too. I think Persona 3 is a much better buy though.
