I was walking in Target yesterday and i saw a copy of Mario Party 7 for Gamecube for not $70, not $50, not even $30 but $9.88. There was one left, so I quickly picked it up and ran to the counter, paid for it and left.

Then i thought, i didn't have a Gamecube controller to play it on my Wii, or a Memory Card. I thought i'll get a Memory Card of the Net, so i needed to find a Controller.

So I ran to EB Games, hoping there had one, I asked the guy, and he said,

"No, we don't sell any Gamecube products anymore, but, we do sell the Classic Controller, which can play Gamecube games on the Wii."

Me, not fully knowing the Classic Controller, said ok, and bought it and ran to my car.

But, when i got home and tryed it, i couldn't even get past the black screen with all that info on it.

Damn EB, ripping of the young.

Lol that is because the wii EMULATES a gamecube exactly. Hence only Gamecube controllers work.

better yet, two each, and maybe take a few extra controllers/games without them knowing.

Well I guess EB had to teach you a lesson for wasting money on a Mario Party game (after all, those are the last thing we should encourage Nintendo to keep making)

GC stuff are gone forever...I wish I bought Pikmin and Enternal Darkness and other games as well as some wireless controlers. But now I will never be able to.

Don't buy third party controllers ever (or memory cards either). My third party Cube controller doesn't even fit in the slot on the Wii.

So have you returned it yet?

Legally, you are able to return it because you were given false information:
"No, we don't sell any GameCube products anymore, but, we do sell the Classic Controller, which can play GameCube games on the Wii."

Take your time with the GC controller, i.e. don't be in a rush this time :P Cause at least you know the game is yours and even if you won't really play it you know your sister will :)

So yeah! :D Everything else I was gonna say was already said :P

WRONG.

No emulation involved, it's all backwards compatibility via hardware.

I have seen in JB game cube controllers and games. the controllers were wireless GC controllers though and i didn't look over them very well so it might have been third party. Have a look in JB if there is one near you and you might get lucky!

Try your local cash converters, OR buy a second hand GC from EB For like $30, because Standard GC Controllers are $50-$60 RRP.

I spotted a gc controller in Cash Converters for $45 (official silver)

I bought a third party GC controller and when I plug it into my GC it starts vibrating and then my GC shuts down. Since then I have never bought a third party product for any of my Nintendo consoles.

Target has some awesome GC game prices atm. I've been to a few, and seen Metroid Prime 2, Battalion Wars, Mario Strikers and Mario Baseball for $9.98 I was tempted to buy them, but realised I'd never bother playing them now.

If you haven't returned the classic controller yet then consider that it's perfect for SNES VC games.

I have seen Wavebirds still being sold in some JB's! But i think they are like $60-70. but its worth it (unless you like vibrations in your controller)

Yup, obviously just a mis-informed employee, should be a very quick return. Eb do have preowned Gamecube controllers come through now and again (although very rarely). I picked up one for about $12.

I once got a new GC controller from Dick Smith for $20. That was a happy day.

I'm not sure about Nintendo-made GCN controllers, but I was in Gametraders one day and I actually saw a 3rd-party GCN controller that was (apparently) designed for the Wii for people who were now just buying GCN games and wanted to play them (and also for the VC). I'm not a big fan of 3rd party controllers but if you can't find anything else it's better than nothing.

Although I'm sure it's possible to get GCN controllers from a number of places (someone mentioned Cash Converters I believe?) so I'd look around a bit first.

I Hate EB. Because they never employ gamers. Just random f**kheads who dont have a clue about anything.
I asked an employee for a Wii points card. he said "What are they?" i explained what they were and he said "Sorry, This store doesnt stock that" And i had to point out to him that they were behind the counter.
It pissed me off :|

He probably just isn't a nintendo gamer and as people said earlier in the forum he was just misinformed. I agree that it was stupid mistakes in both cases but again, that says nothing for other employees.

Only good 3rd party gamecube cotnrooler is the powerwave one.
its called the "retro controller", and it works pretty well. I got 2 of them for $30 each from EB, and theyre pretty good. Only problem is hypersensitive joysticks.

I was driving up to Toowoomba to return the controller, i saw cash converters and decided to stop to check if they have gamecube controllers, i walked in and found 2, that's right 2. So i quickly asked to buy them. So the guy got them out of the cupboard and started the transaction. I didn't have cash on me so I used my Cashcard, it didn't work.

Apparently, the Bank wasn't responding so since i didn't have any cash, i had to leave them behind.

But next door, at COLD CASH, a similar store to cash converters, i found 1. :D :D :D :D

I paid for it and left happy and the controller was returned properly.

I don't see why everyone assumes people who work at EB are gamers. Electronics Boutiques is just a shop that sells games, you don't have to be a gamer to work there.

I want a job at EB's, I'm a gamer i know a lot about games, I should get the job.

Anyway you don't need to play games to work there but it would help.

What's with these silly kids crapping on about EB workers who aren't completely addicted gamers. You do realise that employees need social skills and the ability to relate to humans. Game knowledge plays second fiddle.

I've been a lifetime gamer and recently worked at EB, not because I have a lot of gaming knowledge, but because I'm polite, well-presented and can deal with customers.

I couldn't agree with you more. What use is it to have a superior amount of knowledge on games when you can't communicate to the common customer properly.

To be honest I don't know why everyone complains about the staff at EB, they are just trying to do their job to the best standards that they can achieve. Usually it's the customers who are the problem in customer service, difficult customers can create nerve wracking experiences that can intimidate employees and thus they may come off a bit 'rude' or 'clueless'.

I am a firm believer that everyone should become involved in customer service sometime in their lives, just so they can realise how ignorant and selfish the public can be.

That is too true, especially when customers demand a product we don't have or think they know it all.

I don't shop at EB games for two reasons:
1. Prices at EB suck and I can't be bothered price matching
2. I work in the gaming section at TRU with everyday low prices for games
