Recently after my computer breaking down, i've been stuck with my Mum's Mac. I was just wondering, how do you upload AVI files from a digital camera to a Mac? Whenever I try to upload one it says "Mac cannot read this file, upload not complete" or something like that.

Thanks,

You could try Perian, or something like that, gives support for several different file types like AVI and divx, not sure if it would work but could be worth a try.

What exactly are you using to "upload" it?

Huh? I've used iPhoto to import and then it plays through Quiktime, try looking up quick time AVI codecs or something, not sure. Or get VLC media player (you should have it anyway :P Although it is your mum's).

I'll try downloading a codec. Hopefully i'll be able to find a free one.

Connect your Camera to your mac, it should mount as a drive or folder. Copy - paste the avi from the camera to the desktop.

As for playing the video on your Mac, just download VLC media player. It plays pretty much anything under the sun.

BUMP...

Once again, I have found myself needing to upload an AVI file to my mum's mac. The codecs I downloaded didn't do anything and I have tried to find the drive that Chibi was talking about, but God only knows where that is...

Anyone want to tell me where exactly this "Drive" is? If that doesn't work, can someone tell me an alternative way to upload video files from a camera without having to use iPhoto?

OMG SO RANDOM @ WIND's Post

You should be able to access the camera like you would a USB drive, atleast I think that's what chibi means. Then drag and drop from that to your desktop. Open it up in VLC or the likeand it should be right.

Cameras that do video. My Mum's camera does on the fly DivX6 encoding and saves them into AVIs which is pretty neat. Or was this some comedy post?
