What are your opinions?
Personally, I feel that they are overated. They have good songs for sure, but I do not feel that they are the best band ever and stand above the crowd.
Waiting for the post by Smoking Puppy.....:P

I was researching them on Wikipedia the other day, and no, they are not overrated.

They are so diverse in the rock 'n' roll genre its amazing.

Stairway to Heaven, Whole Lotta Love, Black Dog and Immigrant Song are my favourites.

ACDC is better. Yes I said it.

Most AC/DC songs sound the same and follow the same format, which is completely different to what Boon said about Led Zepp and them being diverse. I only know like one song of Zep's though.. so I don't have much opinion about them.

One band I don't think people talk about is Black Sabbath, there I said it.

Over rated would be every other friggin 60's and 70's band. Beatles for sure and the Stones. I might agree that Led is o r as a metal band, dk about that

Over-rated? Ouch!

I'd say a band like Nickleback are over-rated. Shit band with an aweful sound and the most incredibly poorly written music that idiot pop-chartisits think is great but will be forgotten in 5 years - that's over-rated to me.

LZ were amazing and deserve to be remembered and revered as they are today.

Greatest of all time though? Now there's a debate.

Led Zeppelin are NOT overrated. I own every album of theirs in their vinyl and CD forms respectively. Jimmy Page is a guitar maestro (His Heartbreaker tapping solo inspired many a famous guitarist, most famously Eddie Van Halen).

Robert Plant has one of the most unique voices I've ever heard. Like a banshee's wail! And don't even get me started on the flawless rhythm wall of John 'Bonzo' Bonham and John Paul Jones.

If you don't agree with me, hire the live concert movie The Song Remains The Same. =P~

Or get the 2 DVD thingy, I have it :D

Led Zeppelin are one of my favourite bands, Stairway is overrated, the rest of their songs are not. Achilles Last Stand/Battle Of Evermore FTW.

I think they are great musicians and all, I just never really liked the vocals, like the instrumentals on Stairway are awesome but the vocals really set me off, greatest band ever, well not imo but its only my opinion.

But, when I think Led Zeppelin, I think of that song. Its constructed so well, and the guitar sounds like its cryng to me.

So what exactly makes them overrated? Sure, you may not be their biggest fan, but I don't understand why you won't acknowledge that they had an incredibly unique sound and have had an amazing influence on the music industry (like Slash said, you're precious Eddie Van Halen wouldn't be the same without Hearbreaker).

There's a reason why 20 million people tried to get tickets to their concert last year.

But, when I think Led Zeppelin, I think of that song. Its constructed so well, and the guitar sounds like its cryng to me.
QFT. It's definitely my favourite Led Zeppelin song (and possibly my favourite song of all time), where I love how it builds up as time goes by. Also, that guitar solo is perfect I tell you. PERFECT.

Jimmy Page FTW.

EDIT: Oh and Slash, for the record, Heartbreaker's solo didn't make use of finger tapping, but it's insane speed influenced Eddie Van Halen to create Eruption, the first song to make use of the technique among others. Here's a quote from Wikipedia:

I think I got the idea of tapping watching Jimmy Page do his "Heartbreaker" solo back in 1971. He was doing a pull-off to an open string, and I thought wait a minute, open string ... pull off. I can do that, but what if I use my finger as the nut and move it around ?" ... I just kind of took it and ran with it.

EDIT 2: Oh I forgot to answer the question... In case you haven't realised yet, no I don't think Led Zeppelin is overrated.

Ok, people are mistaking me, I like Led Zeppelin, they are in my top 5 bands, I just feel that they are a tad overated. I dont hate Led Zeppelin, as many people seem to think here, overated does not mean that you dislike the band. Also, Smoking Puppy, that post must have taken some time to write :P.

All I want to know is why you consider them to be overrated?

It didn't take too long to write, it probably just looks bigger than it is because of all the quotes.

Ok, everytime I go to a guitar site or whatsoever, there's Led Zeppelin, I mean, the tiniest things that they have got to say are taken down and shown to the world, so often too. I mean, they're not god's. Sure they were inspirational and stuff, but can't the media and people stop and just accept the fact that not everyone thinks that they are the best band on earth and that we don't need to hear every little intricate detail of their life.

So you don't believe they had that big of an effect on the music industry? The way I see it, is if you don't think they're overrated, their achievements as a band has been amazing, where they deserve all the praise they have gotten. If you do think they're overrated, then you think they don't deserve the praise they receive? You may not consider them to be the greatest band ever (and yes I am aware that many people don't see them as this too), but surely you can see that their impact has been phenomenal?

I wouldn't call it "Phenomenal", greater than the average band, yes.
What I was saying in my last post is that yes they are inspirational, which in turn makes a big impact on the music industry.
There songs are good, though I do not believe they are as good as some people say they are and that Led Zeppelin is getting a bit too much credit. This is not Led Zeppelin's fault, its the media's and other people. Im not saying that they deserve no praise, just not as much as they are getting. There is a happy medium, and I believe that Metallica has it. haha.

Led Zeppelin are fine, I don't hear anyone raving about them too much. I like some of their stuff.

Pop artists ARE over rated. A lot of their songs are just gimmicky and people who only listen to music that is top of the charts need to expand :)

I have had enough of hip hop/r n b/rap and dance/electronic. Some electronica stuff such as Daft Punk I don't mind but the dance stuff where its just the same nst nst nst sound in different pitches is crap.

Other genres I'm happy with. Pop can be good, no denying, its just that theres a lot of bad music out there and it somehow is able to make it onto the chart.

I personally prefer Rock but not heavy stuff.

Led Zeppelin are one of my favourite bands. I can't really choose one in particular, as I have many favourites, such as Silverchair, Powderfinger etcetera.

My favourite LZ song is Achilles Last Stand, followed by Stairway To Heaven.

Although I love LZ and Stairway To Heaven, and I hear people telling me they're overrated all the time, I can't agree.

Masterpieces. Oh, and Jimmy Page is God with a guitar.
