Well, we should all know by now that Blu-ray has become the preferred platform for High Definition media, and local and overseas distributors have announced that they aim to release some anime on this flashy new format. While it's not necessary for all anime, and fans may be annoyed at the thought of re-buying their favourites, we can expect more and more anime to come out on Blu-ray in the coming years. Some have been released already (Paprika, Appleseed Ex Machina), but what anime would you like to see released on Blu-ray?

While I don't plan on restocking my collection with Blu-ray titles, I do want to get some upcoming series on Blu-ray, most notably the new Evangelion movies, and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (if they come out on it anyway).

While I don't mind having anime on DVD, Blu-ray would still be a nice option when buying future releases. What say you?!

Ever seen Disney movie cartoons in High Definition? They don't look that good and it sort of ruins the artistic styles that were originally great with them. I say that becasue this anime may do the same.
Either way, I don't care. I download like JemmaKnight.

Sort of off-topic, (sorry) but do Blu-ray players also play regular DVDs?

There's no real point in re-buying your favourites unless the additional content justifies the money spent on making purchase. Blu-ray is much the same, in the sense that it depends on the the amount of content you get per disc in comparison to it's DVD counterpart. The amount of storage space is considerably larger on Blu-ray than that of DVD so if the amount of dics you're paying for is notably smaller then it might be worth it.

Yes.

Some of them don't play CDs though.

Knowing the creators of the DVD's they'd just up the episode count by one or two eps nothing to special.

I however prefer the regular DVD format, Blu Ray in general isn't required in the world of movies, but games sure why not.
Films should really just stay as DVD's

Hi Def anime looks so much nicer Paprika attests to this, especially if you are watching on a large tv so I would like them
to publish more.

Can Anime look better on HD? I don't think so.

Instead of three episodes for thirty dollars, we'll get four for forty! Exceptional value, really.

I don't understand. HD versus SD doesn't (or shouldn't) affect the artistic style at all. It's simple - if it's a big TV, you should go Blu-Ray. If it's a little TV, Blu-Ray is a waste of money and time.

Yeah, this is where my objection lies. If we got 13 eps or something per disc, which would be possible, I'm in. However, we'll get the same 3-4 eps, but now the Madman trailers will run for 6 hours...

I'm not sure if it would make a difference as I watch all my anime on the internet at a pretty low quality already.

If I can get proper HD versions of the anime I have I will.

From tape to DVD the quality was very much noticeable. However, there's no way to tell between a DVD and a Bluray unless you weigh your wallet.

Exactly, Most new Animes have such clear image quality the difference is minimal.
However older Anime's are much better after the restoration process.

Well honestly, when I watched Paprika on Blu-ray, I was amazed at the picture quality. While I cannot compare it between a DVD version of the same film, it certainly looked a lot more refined and 'bright' than I would say can be done on DVD. So from that, I'm inclined to lean for more Blu-ray titles as they come.
