Just buy an Xbox controller and set up the button configuration to whatever is comfortable.

Also, talking about emulators is bad.

Okay, I'll give you some words to google.
This is assuming you're on a windows PC.

GlovePIE
PPjoy
Bluetooth

Note: You will need a wiimote + bluetooth to use this. It's decently simple.
Also: Why is talking about emulators bad?

As far as I know, it shouldn't be. Talking about downloading roms, or telling people where to, that'd be an issue. Emulators themselves should be alright though. Would need actual rules clarification from a Mod to be certain, though.

Other than that, I'd agree with both Scott and Boggle's suggestions. A wired 360 controller makes a good, cheap PC controller (though some people have issues with the d-pad, I generally find it to be workable enough). If you really wanna use the CC, get a Bluetooth dongle, connect your Wii remote to your PC and then set up the Classic Controller with a GlovePIE script. You'll only need to worry about PPJoy if you intend on using the analogue sticks.

Seriously I don't know who'd be stupid enough to buy the NES pad. Its inferior to the SNES pad in every way. Probably a bunch of nostalgia jaded devouts.

Like you, I desperately want a way to use the Classic Controller with my Emulators, but I haven't the money or the patience to go the CC + Wii-Mote + Bluetooth + Glovepie route... I sent emails with those images to every game controller adapter company I could find on Google. Most had the same response: "The Wii Classic Controller isn't popular enough to warrant making such adapter..." Luckily Vicky at Mayflash was open to the idea, they've already made PS2 controller to Wii-mote adapters, so surely they could reverse what they know about the Wii-Mote port to make a USB adapter for the Classic Controller. They plan to make a wired version first to test the waters, if that does well, then they're going to make a wireless version which uses RF (like those Phillips PS2 clone usb controllers) and runs off batteries. They say the initial run of the adapter should be available either at the end of September or October, keep checking Mayflash's site.

After months of waiting after my initial suggestion, Mayflash has finally made this:

I took the Xbox 360 controller option. In my opinion it was very easy to set up and also probably easier to find. I guess you could go for a classic control if you want the more 'retro feel'. It just comes down to preference.

If you don't find a usb classic control your happy with, maybe look into a 360 control.
