Default Nintendo apologises for racial slur in Animal Crossing media copies

Nintendo of America has now commented on the racial slur that has been discovered in copies of Animal Crossing: Wild World distributed to members or the media.

"Previously played copies of the 2005 DS game Animal Crossing: Wild World were sent to 14 members of the media to demonstrate the ability of players to transfer items to the new Animal Crossing: City Folk for Wii," Nintendo said. "We regret that an offensive phrase was included without our knowledge via a wireless function that allows user-generated catchphrases to spread virally from one game to the next.

"This version is limited to 14 copies created for media review purposes only and is not available at retailers. We sincerely apologize for the incident and are working with media who received the game cards to return them to Nintendo immediately."

Mario's more like a cracka, so whoever put it in did it wrong.

It makes you question if Nintendo's as "Kiddy-Safe" as they claim to be when things like this can happen in a game like Animal Crossing.

Nintendo's not racist, they hate everyone (especially 'core' gamers, oops I went there).

For the love of God, turn on your television to any music video show. I guarantee you'll here some far more "offensive" terms in any one of the modern rap "songs", which can be viewed by children just as easily as any game can be played- perhaps even easier. This sort of rubbish isn't anything to care about. If anything, it's funny.
It's not Nintendo's fault. As they said, it was a user-created phrase that spread from one town to the next via the wireless system. Nintendo didn't put it in there and just as EA can't be held responsible for the Sims 2 mods that make characters totally naked with detail, Nintendo shouldn't and can't be held responsible for user created features.

Due to the amount of crap that plagues the local television networks, I don't watch TV anymore unless the program I'm watching is sport orientated. That being said, it's strange that Nintendo sent these copies to the media without double-checking them first, considering they should've been informed on the nature of these user-generated catchphrases.

Exactly! And not only on the music video channels, but everywhere in the media. Racism, sexual themes, etc. But once again, as soon as it is in a video game the whole world is up in arms about it.

instead of worrying about racial slurs, why don't Nintendo fix the game so Australian users can copy their DS info to their Wii version without it having an error?

Thats seriously the only draw card to this game, being able to transfer your old catalogue of goodies.

The game is exactly the same as the DS version that ive been playing for 2 years.

I'm hardly going to spend another 2 years on this ho hum Wii version because Nintendo Australia have no idea what they're doing.

Boo Nintendo.
I'm seriously over the Wii now.
It's now a doorstop.

The Chinese use the term a lot, especially when they are trying to think of what to say next, like when we say, like, you know, those words a lot.
