Default An easily overlooked but AWESOME PS3 title you must buy

Yes, it is old, released in the US before the Mesozoic era. But I haven't enjoyed a game so much since MGS:GOFTP. It is a mashup of so many genres, I'm attempting to describe it as a part-visual novel alternate-universe WWII 3rd person combat, tactical SRPG. It is a love story, tragedy... an anime game. It has a relatively stupid AI, but it is challenging nonetheless. It is visually beautiful. Its cover art doesn't do its justice. You shoot things, you run, you drive tanks. You command, you order others. On top of that there's a layer of Japanese storytelling involving spirals and magical weapons... glowing girls with red eyes. It has an optional flamboyantly gay guy with a 'bazooka'-like lance in it. The game actually made me think. I don't recall a game treating life and death the same way before.

Even if you hate everything I listed here you will love this game:

Valkyria Chronicles

I tried the demo and hated it. And it isn't overlooked, it's extremely looked at.

Valkyria Chronicles is <3

It's the first game in a long time I have actually wanted to go and replay, I love it that much.
I wish SEGA would hurry up with their DLC. :'(

Yes. Valkyria Chronicles deserves every look it gets. Consistently challenging, wonderful story and visuals and excellent gameplay combined with awesome level design and scenarios.

Good to see that someone else has bought it :D

Also, sad much? I cried like a little baby throughout bits of it... Sigh...

The problem is that the game was overlooked, its that Sega did a terrible job getting the game into English stores. It took me 2 months after the supposed November release to find a copy, and if not for my 15% Webmail voucher from EB I would have paid full price. Anyone in Melbourne looking for a copy should go to the Lonsdale Street JB, last time I was in there (less than a week ago) I saw 4 copies together, which is somewhat of a record for a game this hard to track down.

Was I the only one that didn't like this game? I think I'd better try the demo again.

Well it was hard to find copies, but it must be doing okay as Jb Hifi in Adelaide just got another 4 copies in on the restock, which is always good news for a title as most niche games like this are lucky to get a restock.

Well I saw four on the shelf yesterday and considering when I asked the guy when I bought my own copy earlier he said they only got a couple in and were ordering more, so I just assume they don't have a box full of them out the back. Just educated guesswork.

Ahhhhh! You just reminded me I need to finish this. :(

I am personally up to Chaper 11 or something, I think... hmmmm. Don't get that much time with the PS3 though, and haven't played many/any games at all for a few weeks. Such a shame.

MY NEW MONTH'S RESOLUTION IS TO FINISH VALKYRIA CHRONICLES, ONE OF THE BEST GAMES OF 2008.

I purchased it on the week of release simply because I knew it wasn't going to have a widespread release and I would have never ever ever found it again. I paid the 'pretty much RRP' of $95, which was a bit odd for JB at the time when most new releases sold for less, but I don't regret buying it at all.

I just watched a review for this game and it seems to require far too much thought and time for me to be able to enjoy it.

On the internet its being lauded and praised, but in the real world most people have never heard of it. I told a friend of mine whose into war games and stuff it and as I'd have guessed he'd never heard of it. So he tried it, bought it and its his favorite PS3 game. It is a good game, its just that anyone whose not already following gaming sites online (or more specifically ones that give extra time to more niche games, VC got minimal front-page coverage on mainstream sites) doesn't know about it.
