Location, arrival, ticketing
All events are held at
Colonel Light Gardens Uniting Church, 560 Goodwood Road, Daw Park.
Google Maps
The events run from 7pm on the Friday night til 9pm on the Saturday night. If you arrive before 7pm on the Friday, you may not be admitted. If you are admitted, you must wait in the foyer until we start processing tickets a few minutes before 7.
Please do not enter a ticketed area without a ticket. You may be asked to leave the event.

Pricing
Allocated seating is required for PC gamers. Console players may choose to purchase an allocated seat, depending on their intended activities. Allocated seating is not required for card games, board games, hosted console games or lounging about. In this case, ask for a social ticket.
Allocated Seating: $18 for guys, $9 for girls. Additional seats $9 if required.
Social ticket: $9 for guys, $4.50 for girls.

Food
The StreetGeek Cafe serves 4 scheduled meals per event.
$7 Food
$5 Bottomless Coffee (or $1 per serve)
$10 Coffee + Food
Snacks, drinks and sometimes hot food is also available at the StreetGeek Cafe.

Seating
When you book for the LAN, you have the opportunity to select a seat. For regular members, we will try to hold on to your seat until 8pm on the Friday night. If you have not arrived by this time, your seat may be reallocated. Super members' seats are reserved for the entirety of the LAN, but they forfeit their spleen if they confirm and don't show up. If you will be arriving late, arrange for a friend to pay for your seat when they arrive. 'Reserved' signs are available. Seats that have been paid for and which have a 'Reserved' sign will be held for the whole LAN. Likewise, if you go home overnight, ask for a 'Reserved' sign so that your seat will not be reallocated overnight.

Supermembership
Supermembership entails paying a reduced price in advance.
3 months: $45 (instead of $54)
6 months: $80 (instead of $108)
Lifetime: $450 (instead of $infinity)

Benefits of supermembership:
  • You pay a reduced per-lan cost
You can book your seats before the confirmation email is sent
Your seat is held until the end of the lan
A note on the lifetime membership option. In the unlikely event that StreetGeek 'fold's within 2.5 calendar years of your becoming a life member, you will be entitled to a partial refund proportional to the amount of time remaining in the 2.5 years.

Main Tournament
I will add some content here.

Console Tournament
I will add some content here.

Other Activities
Guitar Hero and StepMania (DDR) are always running.

As this post will be a permanent fixture, any replies will be deleted after being added to the Q&A.

There's some in Sydney, check out: www.egg.org.au

They have smash tournaments, LANs, all at UTS (uni in Sydney).

There's none in Newcastle though.. which is a bit of a shame, but I'm sure something similar could be organised.

I wouldn't catching a train down there and playing, that would be fun.

Sorry to go off-topic, just caught my attention.

Jamage's SG 8.4 Review

My review will mainly be from console games and comps but from what I saw the PC games, comps and leeching went off and I wished I brought my PC.

Many of console games were played throughout the entire Lan and I think Guitar Hero didnt get turned off for over 24 hours. Plenty of games that arnt even released in Aus were played alot like Super Smash Bros Brawl and Mario Kart Wii.

I had an awesome time and only slept for 1 hour (many didnt sleep at all) thanks to Jolt Cola and Monster energy drinks. I was quite tired after lots of DDR, Wii games and being on my feet most the time.
Food was great, setup rocked, atmosphere rocked and frisbee mark was alot of fun.
Plenty of prizes and door prizes were given out thanks to the Streetgeek sponsors.

Console Comps

Warioware Smooth Moves (Wii)
1st console comps of the night was the always popular and always silly Warioware Smooth Moves doing multiplayer Lifeline for pure randomness and awesomeness. This comp had the most amount of entrants and was definatly a bunch of fun with people having to perform wacky and crazy motions with the Wiimote major lol's were had during this comp.

1st: Shazmo (middle left)
2nd: Ray (far right)
3rd: Chrono (middle right)
4th: John S (far left)

Mariokart Wii
What can I say Mariokart is Mariokart but now its even more of a blast with 12 player, online, motorbikes and much more. Most races were close with alot of 'oos' and 'ahhs', red shells and banna peels galore. Cant wait for next comp and the Aus release so I can have it.

1st: Chris (middle left)
2nd: Chrono (middle right)
3rd: Hybrid (far left)
4th: Micolous (far right)

Tekken 5 (PS2)
We had some good players in this 11 man tournament and some really good and close matches were fought. The comp was run round robin double elim and I got put into the losers bracket 1st round and the guy who beat me got knocked out by someone else then I beat him and eventually faced the undefeated Hybrid in the finals. Because he hadnt lost I had to beat him twice and he only had to beat me once and I won the 1st set of very close rounds and was then beaten in the final ina really close match.

1st: Hybrid (Middle)
2nd: Jamage (Right)
3rd: Tom (left)

Wii Sports Bowling (Wii)
After I scored a perfect 300 people were more interested in mucking around and bowling from the weirdest positions and even outside than putting down a competing score.

1st: Jamage (Perfect 300)
2nd: Woodstar
3rd: Micolous and Unknown dude

Guitar Hero 3 (PS2/Wii)
Everyone had 3 turns on Closer by Laguna Coil on Hard on either PS2, Wii or a go or 2 on each with the top score after everyone had their 3 turns winning the comp, things went well and it was alot of fun with top scores trading places a couple of times.

1st: Techa (194,376)
2nd: James P (182,300)
3rd: Woodstar (173, 790)

Halo 3 was cancelled due to lack of 360's and Tv's not willing participants. It was played by a few people though. Hopefully next time.

SSBB comp didnt end up happening because everyone was more interseted playing freindlies for the mean time and getting used to the game than having a tournamnet. Game was played throughout the entire lan though.

Photos I took of the event can be found here: http://s269.photobucket.com/albums/j...%20April%2008/

Win a Wii at Streetgeek

promo.streetgeek.com.au

Awesome news everybody! StreetGeek is holding a viral video competition, commencing immediately. It should be alot of fun to see the submissions!

Summary: Create a video. An awesome video. It should promote or mention some aspect of StreetGeek. Consider making it no more than a few minutes long, but that's not an entry criteria.

Deadline: The competition will be judged at StreetGeek 08.07 - Wintereenmas (July). Precise deadline TBA.

Prize: Nintendo Wii, including Wiimote, Nunchuk and WiiSports game. StreetGeek reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal value or cash if Wiis are unavailable, or to increase the prize pool without notice.

Judging: All entries that exceed a reasonable standard (determined by the committee) will be screened at Wintereenmas, and attendees will be asked to vote. Voters will be asked to consider entertainment value, and publicity value to StreetGeek.

Conditions: A high-res version of the video should be provided to the committee. The video must mention or promote StreetGeek in some way. The author retains copyright of their work, and licenses it unconditionally and nonexclusively to StreetGeek. By submitting an entry, the entrant warrants that he or she has the appropriate legal rights to comply with these conditions. Entrants are able to retract or update their entries at any time before the deadline. StreetGeek reserves the right to alter these conditions with no prior notice using stealth, subterfuge and ninjility.

Q&A:

Quote:
Would 640x480 be considered high-res?
Whatever is the highest resolution you have is fine. This is the video that will be shown for voting, so the higher the quality the better.

Quote:
Do we have to distribute the video via youtube etc. and if so does it's popularity or spread have any effect on the judging?
No, you do not have to publish the video anywhere. StreetGeek will post it on youtube etc after the comp if you have not already done so, but youtube hits will not directly be used as a judging criteria. Voters will be asked to consider entertainment value, and (potential) publicity value to StreetGeek.

Quote:
without some measure of the spread of the video outside of SG the 'viral' part of 'viral video competition' is kind of irrelevant
It's a 'viral' video competition because we hope that all of the submissions will become viral video sensations and improve the awareness of StreetGeek.
Quote:
Can anyone recommend some good video editing software? Up until now I've been using VirtualDubMod, but the GUI is a bit too simplistic and it doesn't do special effects. Windows Movie Maker is better, but it only lets me save in proprietry WMV format, not XVid or anything useful.
Other users have recommended Final Cut Pro for Mac OSX or Ulead VideoStudio for Windows. DrFrag posted this list of video editing software.

Default Jamage's SG 8.6 reveiw

Jamage’s Steetgeek 8.6 Review

It was Friday the 13th and it was cold but that didn’t stop this Lan from rockin and heaps of people from turning up and having a great time.
Unfortunatly I missed the 1st few hours because I had to work Friday night and didn’t get there till 11pm but when I got there things were crankin.

Many good games were played throughout the entire Lan.
The food cooked was great as usual, I had 3 bowls of that chicken soup.
As I spent most of my time in the console area and I wont have much to say about what went on with the PC tournaments and such but it made me wish I brang my PC to the event, it was also packed out.
We also had Rockband :D Enter the Sandman oh Yeah!!!

Console Tournaments:

Super Smash Bros Brawl
Streetgeeks best brawl tournament sofar, they are only gonna get better from here (aus release soon :D). Plenty of entrants and a double elim format meant this comp ran for hours and was pretty greuling for those who made it through each round. Many different characters and there was no favourite. Rules were 4 stock, 7 min time limit, no items etc.
1st: Hybrid
2nd: Black Aces
3rd: Jamage
4th: Anykey
5th: Shadowmandog2

Guitar Hero 3
We had Guitar Hero on Wii, PS2 and a PC running the 360 version I think and they were all played so much that im going crazy so I mainly played Rockband for some new songs. The comp we did was highest score on Before I forget on Hard.

1st: Tatsu -198,9681
2nd: Raedur 178,791
3rd: Kman 148,241

Mario Kart Wii
We ran two Mariokart Wii competitions because of popular demand and me not being there for the 1st one. People used all sorts of controls including Wii wheel (my fav), Gamecube controllers, remotes and Nunchucks and Micolous was even using a GCN – PS2 controller converter and using a PS2 control in the Mariokart Wii comp.

Friday Tournament
1st: Zac
2nd: Hybrid
3rd: Tomage
4th: Chris (Zac’s mate)

Saturday Tournament
1st: Techa
2nd: Jamage
3rd: Grand Masta Groove
4th: Shannon

Warioware Smooth Moves:
Once again the crazy randomness that is Warioware made an appearance at Streetgeek and as usual it was one of the biggest console comps as anyone can win no matter how bad you do but by doing good you have a slightly higher chance of winning so this is a good comp for anyone to join in on.

1st: Micolous
2nd: Jamage
3rd: Anykey
4th: Hybrid

(Pic of one of the Warioware rounds)

Wii Sports Bowling
We did the random score target again and this time it was 105 (winner is the closest to the score or 1st to get the exact score). It was played by many at first but after only a few hours the top 3 spots had already been taken because of the low target was easy to get and not much bowling was played afterwards.

1st: Anykey (1st to get exactly105)
2nd: Lazarus (105)
3rd: Jamage (105)
