Default This is what autistic people want to say to the ignorant.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DruXJxMqLTA

How would you feel if someone came up to you and said "i have a cure for your [dissability]"?

I would feel violated.

These are a bunch of movie lines. have a good think about them.

These lines are what autistic people (like me) want to say to those who are ignorant and to those what want to "cure" us. ("kill us" would be the more accurate term.)

I put this up NOT to gain sympathy, but to get the quality of life that you all take for granted, and to live with dignity like any other human being.

We can get over racism as we understand why skin colour differs, that isn't scary anymore. However we don't understand how the brain works, so when someone's brain is wired differently people can't help but feel a bit uncomfortable. Cure or kill, both appear to be threat reduction to me, make it into something you understand or get rid of it. People aren't very good at dealing with things they don't understand, much less something that nobody understands. Don't take it too personally.

I'm sure that there are many people with autism that don't like what it does to them and want to be "cured", as you put it.

I would be very grateful and interested as to how I can be cured.

I have my own genetic shortcomings and you don't see me acting like I'm special or unique. If there was a cure to deuteranomaly I'd be all over it.

You edited your orignal post, so im replying to that. I paraphrased what you said.

What if that unique-ness was you not having a face? I can see where your coming from, but a cure is not a bad thing if they are trying to improve your quality of life, is it?

Why does society try to "cure" murderers and rapists? They're not bad people, they're just different!

If your rebuttal is that they harm others, replace "murderers and rapists" with "solitary drug users, people who look at child pornography and people who practice self-harm".

Actualy It wont. These "cures" wont work, and even if they did, I would lose my personality and the abilities I fucus on. Who cares if I were to get more abilities. The Eternal_Saber that you know would die and I will turn into somebody who would only descriminate the rest of the dissabled.

People who provide this "cure" do not think that people with Autism are human.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vYIU78s3jg

We are already human, just a different kind of human.

The people who privide a "miricle" are not autistic people who want the "cure". They just want to get rid of us.

Wait...so murderers and rapists aren't bad people?

I'd hate to see your definition of bad people.

Under certain circumstances your view may be valid, but as a majority i say its pretty incorrect.

Though what is it that defines a bad person? My opinion would be that a 'bad person' would be defined by a majority, and in this case, murderers and rapists, seen as wrong in our society, are indeed bad people.

It'd depend what my disability was and what it impaired.

Autism isn't always a just a 'difference' though, autism can greatly impair a person's ability to normally function and can greatly reduce quality of life depending on the severity. I'm sure many people would jump at and greatly appreciate anything that would 'normalise' (depending on your perspective), or at least 'increase' the brain's ability to function and remove or reduce autism.

Autism isn't something that makes someone less of a person, it's nothing to be ashamed of at all. However, it's not exactly something to have pride in either. It's something that many people have great difficulty living with, and that they'd rid themselves of in a second.

This is like X-men and people wanting to get rid off their powers.

From the people with powers point of view, some want a 'normal life,' and others are positive that they are the way they are for a reason and acknowledge that.

From the people with no powers point of view, some think of 'powers' as a disability and want to help those who need help, others feel that people with powers should live normal lives with their 'power/disability.'

Theres too many variables and stamping one on all of us isn't right. Its not like people with autism think one thing, and people without it think another, everyone thinks differently, and being so called 'different' you should understand that.

Maybe people are just trying to help those who actually feel that autism is a disability on a personal level.
