Default AN Band RESURRECTION!!!

After a seemingly incomprehensible amount of feedback (1 person) I have decided we should resurrect the AN Band. Last time it did collapse unfortunately, this was due in part or completely because I had left the forum. Anyway since everybody seemed pretty enthused about it last time around we may as well give it another shot.

So for those who don't remember or weren't here last time around; to sign up you need to be a somewhat capable musician of some form, let us know the instrument(s) you play and if you can feel free to upload a sample. Also maybe give us an indication of styles of music you play and/or are interested in. IMPORTANT: YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO RECORD YOUR INSTRUMENT TO BE A PART OF THE BAND.

Anyway I play drums, guitar and bass in that order. I play primarily metal (mostly extreme metal) however I am pretty open to playing most styles within my ability. I do enjoy classical and prog music, anything with a bit of skill involved really. That said I can go with just about anything. So yeah. Sweet. Awesome. Hole in one.

I was thinking just like last time that for the first song the band plays, or the test song it should be a cover of a popular nintendo theme song. Such as Zelda, Mario, DK etc... Suggestions for the song are welcome and hopefully we can get this primarily underway.

I'm curious how this will turn out, ad hoc recording over the net could have chaotic results. I can make miscellaneous sounds with found objects, and I have a triangle! Also have an (acoustic) guitar but, not very good. I can sing pretty decently, and if I were to record anything it'd all be experimental stuff, ahaha. Not that I have access to a decent mic (headset mic is all...), anyway.

Cool idea, logistically I think it will fail but I'm really curious to watch how it pans out.

*echo of Boo's thoughts*

I'm mainly a pianist, though used to play clarinet (haven't touched it in ages) and had a bit of a go at a couple of other things here and there. Piano's an electric one, so it's easy enough to record. Also has plenty of instrument sounds to choose from (they actually sound good, not like crappy computer midi :P). Not that I've touched that in a long while either. Dunno how well I'd go at this kind of thing, but eh. Give it a shot. Even if someone like Merc would wipe the floor with me :P

Alrighty so Boo will I put you down for noises/samples? Not quite sure what you want to do there. Gookanheimer i'll put you down for piano/keys.

This project can work out quite easily if everyone does their part. All that really needs to be done for it to work properly is somebody records the entire base structure of a song such as the entire melody of the Super Mario Bros theme. The bass and drums can be added quite easily and obviously from there. All other instruments such as keys, lead guitars, samples and other miscellaneous stuff can be layered on top throughout. Perhaps to prevent cluttering people can be given sections of the song they can put their solos or leads over. Obviously what the base instrument will be will change depending on the song and mood given.

That's basically how it'd work at the start to keep it simple and easy for everyone. If it holds up you'd make it a little more complex from there by having interludes, breakdowns, major tempo changes etc... But yeah. Lets see how we go.

I'm a bit of a multi-instrumentalist, I focus on keyboard/piano and saxophone primarily though. I can do vocals to some extent, mid to falsetto mostly. I don't personally have too much in the way of recording equipment, but I do have access to some stuff that's pretty high quality. I can read musical scores at a pretty basic level, but I'll get pretty much anything down if you give me enough time.

And on another note, if this is going to work well, we're going to need someone who can mix well. This isn't going to sound too good if we're just laying tracks over one another.

I could mix! ...if I had the hard/software. :[

(Commendable Achievement in Audio Design Pre-tertiary last year, I focused on recording/production.)

Definitely, I figured there'd be a few people who could mix on here so we could have them mix their own versions and everyone can vote on what they think is best. I can do basic mixes, with a good balance of clarity for all instruments but not a lot else. So yeah anybody interested in mixing feel free to let me know. I'll add it to the main topic.

Read those. Replace Merc with Merc and Gook. I could try sing (used to be in vocal ensemble at school 'till they decided to stop cool songs and turn into a "we're-not-a-choir choir" with lots and lots of Jesus songs. And the odd God one. I quit this year.)

Hmm maybe we could try to recreate a Rhythm Heaven song with a full band? (maybe Remix 3...although not many/no guitar parts, although we could add them) Dunno, just a thought.

Alright sweeto, good to see plenty of interest. Lets keep it coming, we've basically got enough to make a song. I'd at least like another guitarist to join though.

What exactly is Rhythm Heaven? Never heard of it.

Maybe you know it as Rhythm Paradise, but it's not actually out here yet. Have a lookie here.

EDIT: Just realised that doesn't actually say much. Basically Nintendo + Rhythm Games = Win

Oh, yeah I sold my DS... Twice. I stick with the GBA for handheld gaming.

Are the songs original or Nintendo tracks? If you have an idea of a song you want to use, upload an MP3 or something. :)

Can I be part.

I play guitar in a band : http://www.myspace.com/floorislavalol

I can also program drums and synths in programs like fruity loops and guitar pro.
I have this VST that emulates the NES soundchip - Great sounds if you wanna use it.

I can't give you the mp3, because that would kinda be illegal, but I'll try to find it on youtube. And the RH song would only be after we've got the hang of this because it'd be relatively hard to do.

EDIT: GO IGN

Seanington your link is broken like your leg is about to be in a minute. Nah just kidding man, you are in.

667, that song is pretty cool but yeah we'll probably look for something a bit more straightforward. I'd rather a song with minimal instruments so we can add our own bits and make it a bit more unique. That's why I think a classic NES song would be a great starting point. Need to see what everyone is capable of playing.
