WHOA KIDDIES!
![]() |
Activision has unveiled the next game in the Call of Duty franchise, and Wii players will be along for the journey deep into the South Pacific and European theatres when Call of Duty: World at War is released this spring on Nintendo’s system, the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Games for Windows PC (and, Nintendo DS was also included in the reveal trailer).
![]() The game will be a gritty fight that will pit players against enemies that know no surrender and show no mercy, said Activision, and it will utilise the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare engine, allowing it to throw out the rulebook of war to transform WWII combat through a new enemy, new tactics and an uncensored experience of the climatic battles that gripped a generation. As U.S. Marines and Russian soldiers, players will employ new features like cooperative gameplay, and weapons such as the flamethrower in the most chaotic and cinematically intense experience to date. “With Call of Duty: World at War, we’re re-defining what it means to play a WWII game,” said Mark Lamia, Studio Head for Treyarch. “We’re excited to give players a host of new enemies that employ entirely new tactics, as well as new, groundbreaking tools – like co-op and the flamethrower – to succeed in the epic fight.” Call of Duty: World at War will introduce co-operative play, bringing fresh meaning to the “No One Fights Alone” mantra with up to four-players online for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC (no Wii, it seems), or two-player local split-screen on consoles. The Wii version will also support a unique co-op mode for two players, and for the first time ever players will experience harrowing single-player missions together for greater camaraderie and tactical execution. The co-op campaign will allow players to rank up and unlock perks in competitive multiplayer by completing challenges and earning experience points, adding continuous re-playability and team-based gameplay. Whether playing competitively or cooperatively – if players are online with World at War – they will always gain experience points, Activision continued. Based on a player’s experience rank and rank of the player’s friends, the game will scale dynamically to provide a deeper level of challenge. Speaking with VideoGamer.com at the game’s unveiling in London, developer Treyarch said that the Wii version will make use of a ported version of the Modern Warfare engine and will feature support for the Wii Zapper. And, a separate, ‘special’ team at Treyarch is handling development of the game according to senior producer Noah Heller. Heller said, “For all intents and purposes it's the same game,” and added, “It's going to look better than any Wii game I've ever seen on the market. This will easily the best shooter on the Wii.” Perhaps The Conduit will have some real competition on its hands...

Damn. I didn't think it would have online on Wii, but I really wanted it to have it. :(
Oh well. Co-op mode sounds good. I'll keep looking at this.

Are the perks unlocked only in co-op campaign? I much prefer the perks unlocked when you rank up (ie Modern Warfare style) than this.

Co-op is tons betetr than online. The fact of sitting with a mate next you, passing missions and working together, that makes a great experiance which sould be played.
I really can't wait for this, it's going to be awesome.

No online is a major letdown, I though they'd learn from CoD3. For me, this has gone from a must buy to a maybe... :(

No reason the game cant have both. Also dont expect too much, its made by Treyarch and their CoD games are no where near as good as the ones Infinity Ward make, the wii version will most like be made using ps2 tools.
