[General] Racing games lead to irresponsible driving

It has been claimed by the New South Wales acting Superintendent Dave Evans, that street racing games among others, are a cause of irresponsible driving among teenagers. "In games you race, you crash and it is a matter of pressing the buttons and off you go again. In real life it doesn't work that way, you can be killed." said Evans, who also stated that "the games made teens think they were invincible". A study based in Germany found that after playing driving games, men would drive more recklessly after indulging in the virtual street races, but women did not. Perhaps games such as Burnout and Need for Speed, and hey, let's not kid ourselves, who hasn't drived recklessly in Mario Kart, are the cause of unruly drivers?

there was a crash in adelaide. 5 teenagers in the car, 1 died and 3 were very heavily injured. they crashed into a stoby pole by driving at 140km/h in a modified car

Some video gamers may wish life was like the games[I personally would like to survive multiple gun wounds easily like in pretty much any game with shooting in, or to be able to drive go-karts on the road while throwing banana skins and bombs behind me] but I don't think any of us is stupid enough to let that effect how we work in the real world. We have games to let out craziness out in, not magnify them into real life.

But what causes the interest in all these games based around unsafe driving practices? That's right, it's a rebellion against the boring rules and regulations of a society well schooled in safe driving practices! Funny I play video games to stop me from doing it in real life.

Yeah I want to burnout, crash cars and race at insane speed but I know I have a great chance of dying if I do it in real life. So I turn to video games for that rush....
