Everyone's Theater Channel heads to Japan in December
Posted 4th of October, 2008 at 12:03 pm by Lucario
Once purchased Wii owners will then be able to watch films, anime and video content on demand, much like the Box Office service provided by Foxtel
All content will range from 100 to 400 Wii Points per view and will feature various programs ranging from pre-school entertainment to adult anime. The service is said to also be provided in high quality allowing compatibility with HD televisions and sound systems.
This seems to be yet another Japanese exclusive feature but we can always hope, right?

If this did get released else were it wouldn't be something that I would use seeing as I have Austar (Foxtel), but if they had something good on their I would probably check it out.
And you probably don't keep the things you purchase, I wouldn't get it.
Throw in the Wii's poor ability as a media center with nothing higher that 480p and no true surround sound and its pretty poor compared to the other offerings out there.
I'd lay odds at 2000:1 within a year.
| You don't keep it, still works out cheaper then Foxtel which is $6 per movie, you can always record it though. |
When I started reading this, I first thought that the charge to watch content would be based on a subscription service; say, 400 Wii Points for X amount of days, but per view is just mind boggling on top of the initial entry free. Should this channel reach other parts of the world, I have little doubt that the content on offer will be severely limited and biased towards regional demographics as well. A good hard look at similar services is proof enough of that, which is frequently due to licensing issues and profit:cost ratio that make things more complicated than they seem.
Nintendo's direction with this service is understandable, albeit contradictory to their initial plans and ideals, but it is simply uncompetitive to other systems already in place. Besides, it's only going to take up more of your Internal Storage Space that isn't getting a fix until next year anyway. It's a win-win situation to avoid it. :P
And really, like Nintendo would allow smut on its console.
| You do realise that 400 Wii Points equates to exactly $6 AU? You're essentially paying the same amount for (presumably) decent content, only for it to be played through a highly inferior entertainment output by TV/Movie standards. Also don't forget this is a WiiWare service run by Fugi so they have chosen all the prices not Nintendo, just like My Life as a King Nintendo had no say in the price of DLC.
| Anime isn't the same as cartoons over here. I'd assume "Adult Anime" isn't referring to hentai etc so much as it's referring to anime for adults. There's heaps of them, and while the content may be quite a bit more mature, it's not really explicit. And really, like Nintendo would allow smut on its console. |
Foolish.
