New Play Control: Metorid Prime has hit Japanese stores and with it comes details on what has changed from the original Gamecube classic. Changing the Metroid series forever, this title became one of 2002's best sellers reinventing Samus in stunning, high quality visuals along with allowing gamers to experiences her world through the first person perspective.
Firstly and most noticeable is the updated controls, the game is played using the Wiimote and Nunchuk. No Gamecube controller support is available but who needs it anyway, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption worked really well and Prime boasts the same control scheme.
Next is the 16:9 widescreen support which is a welcomed feature, not to mention the "Scan Visor" has been updated to resemble that of Corruption.
Hard Mode is now available from the start for those who've played through the original. As with Corruption, tokens have been added allowing features to be unlocked once a certain goal is met. The first token unlocks a new Sound Test mode whilst the other gives you the Fusion Suit which originally required a connection to the GBA title, Metriod Fusion. A final change made to the various modes available is the removal of the original NES classic that started it all Metroid for obvious reasons.
Finally aditional voice acting has been included to the game giving people a slightly new experience conbined with the updated controls.
There you have it, heaps of little changes available making the title well worth the RRP of $49.99 in Australia, though no release has been announced we can expect it soon enough.

Sounds yummy. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for this one.

You would think that they would add Wi-fi to the gamecube remakes, this would be especially great for Mario power tennis,
Its quite funny because every single play control game that has been announced is of a gamecube game that I have wanted but never got, I mean I would have gotten them but either I didn't like the game at the time or I just didnt buy it, and now they are all out again YAY!!!

Awesome! Despite playing through the game many times, I never actually OWNED it, so this is a must for me! Can't wait to get back into it again.
Also, Lucario, you wouldn't happen to know what was meant by the updated scan visor would you..? Does that mean it'll be accessed with the minus button, along with the other visors?
I also wonder how they'll incorporate multiple beams into it...

Also, from the videos Ive seen it has the 'jump ball' ability from Corruption, aswell as new and improved menus and map systems.

Wait, it's only going to cost $50? Nice!
Those are some pretty awesome new features (Hard Mode at the start!), although i'm going to miss the old voice actor. Him and his awesome deep-pitched voice really suited the space-ey cutscenes. That and:
"IMPACT CRATER"
"TALLON OVERWORLD"

That was so fun. =P

I'm impressed on how they've handled this, not only did they make the obvious improvements, they took the extra effort to round off all the rough edges and managed to actually put a fair price tag on it. The lack of GC controller support is most likely not a big deal, but its something that wouldn't have hurt to be in there, while the videos of the aiming system made it look like it'd add more to the game than I anticipated, I'm still not sold on their importance.

I sold just for having an excuse to buy the game again :P
One of my favourite games ever, I just wish for another one which is as great.

I've completed Metroid Prime a few times so going through it all again doesn't appeal to me. Sure it's a great game but if I want to play it again i'll just play my Cube version thanks. Too many NEW games being released at the moment for me to worry about a 6 year old game with no added sugar.

| The opposite for me. I own nearly all of the games they are re-releasing so I have no interest in these scams....sorry remakes. Not worth getting if you already have it on Gamecube then. Especially now that the NES Metroids gone.
If you liked the game, then you can always play through it again.

My main interest in the "New Play Control" line was if you could choose between the original and updated control schemes.
Not being able to choose between GC controller and Wii-mote is a deal breaker for me, and especially because of how easy it should have been to give players the choice.
Sure, it doesn't sound important, but if there is something wrong with the controls, or if you just don't like them, then it would be nice to be able to switch back to the original control scheme.
Outside of that, though, it's nice to see they've actually "updated" rather than just do a straight port with extra waggle. And the price is a very nice touch too.
That is, $49.95 RRP, $39,95 at JB, $79.95 at EB... LLLLLAAAAAWWWWWLLLL...

Are you serious?
Yeah, House of the Dead Overkill, Deadly Creatures and the upcoming Madworld actually do suck ass!
A metroid prime remake is better than 5 different games of deadly creatures calibre imo. Would have preferred it if Nintendo spent their money working on a new Zelda though or something, instead of converting old GCN games.

"Metriod Fusion"? "Conbined"? Nice spelling thar! ^.~
Anywho, I just hope they release all 3 Prime games into a box set or something. Otherwise, I might just pick the first one up.

Really great to hear that they are putting the effort to make Hyper's purchase of this game, again, justified.

As am I, buddy. =P
I wonder if they'll put wi-fi in the multiplayer part of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes when it's ported over. It'd be nice, but i'm not getting my hopes up.

Yay, a new play control game that's gonna be worth me purchasing. =D
I'm liking all the little tweaks they've made to the game this time around, it's good to know there's been a little more effort put into it than just simply porting it.
