Metroid Prime Trilogy gets a collector's edition

Posted 25th of June, 2009 at 11:07 am by Infernal Monkey Infernal Monkey is online now

As if cramming three fantastic games on a single disc wasn't enough, Nintendo of America has revealed a collector's edition of Metroid Prime Trilogy, complete with a fancy metal case, slip cover and art booklet. This will be the only version of the game shipping (for quite some time likely - hello golden Ocarina of Time cartridge) so there's no additional cost.

Metroid Prime Trilogy is due out in America August 24, with a European release in early September. It's likely Nintendo of Europe will offer the collector's edition as well.

I was a bit annoyed that I'd have to buy games that I'd already bought, but this metal case seals the deal.

Does anyone else think this feels odd? I mean Nintendo are going to quite a lot of effort with this, I'm not saying they don't go to a lot of effort with their games but making an awesome collection like this when they could just do what they are doing with the other GC games is really quite cool. Also it's pretty cheap if I remember correctly. Well done Ninty, i'll get this for collecting purposes probably if it comes out here.

Wow, this was a game that I was pretty much definitely going to get, but this has sealed the deal. Like Zephyr, Nintendo had impressed me with this one.

Aside from fantastic value for money, the shock of Nintendo listening to their fans is almost incalculable. It was just over a year ago when the Mock-Up Trilogy Set was revealed, creating a powerful wave of desperation and self-defeat amongst fans, certain that Nintendo would never bother with such an idea. Granted, Nintendo's approach might have been deemed the best method to sell units by the marketing division, but it's the impression of caring and listening that ultimately matters; they are certainly delivering with this package. :)

Personally, I will be picking this up not only for the bonus extras, but also because I have extreme difficulty readjusting to the GCN Controllers for Metroid Prime 1 & 2. Once you've used the Wiimote/Nunchuk scheme, it's basically impossible going back. In the meantime, selling one's current copy of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption before its market value falls through the floor might be a good idea who are interested in picking this up. ;)

You could always resort to importing... providing our exchange rate doesn't take a massive dive in the medium term. :P

Nice tin, but it still not quite as good as the mockup. I suppose a custom case costs a lot more to make than a metal tin which are a fairly ubiquitous these days.

^This.

Could always consider trading MP3:C in to JB hifi for something. But then again, there isnt that much out during that time.... so probably wouldnt be worth it.

Importing will be the way to go, providing our import sites dont get shut down by the governments internet filter. Is it worth the money for NPC and a tin? not sure. I already have all 3 games.

Motherfark, I didn't think of that.

You reckon it'd be printed on the tin? Or there'd be a box inside and it would only be on that?

It'll probably just be a sticker on the front so easily enough removed hopefully. I'm going to trade in MP:3 soon and if it doesn't end up coming out here i'll just buy it again as it can be pretty cheap sometimes, I certainly won't be getting rid of 1 and 2 though.

This looks so awesome.

I never finished Prime, and I haven't even played 2 or 3. And that metal case is just awesome.

I'm a sucker for collectors editions.

Eh, Looks like pretty average imo. Is it just me or is it just a couple of their old wallpapers rehashed and slapped on a tin? :S
Tempted to get the trilogy, but I already have all three... hrmmm :(

Yes. Prime 3 has the PED suit (pictured), Prime 2 had the Light Suit (pictured), and Prime 1's piece of awesomeness was the Phazon Suit (???). Way more awesome than the vanilla suit.

But the PED suit doesn't have the Hazard Shield on it to make it 100% awesome. =P

Ah, that's right. Couldn't remember if there was a suit upgrade in that or not.

SEE? It's missing a whole lot of stuff!
