Wii price cut supposedly confirmed during phone conference
Posted 19th of September, 2009 at 11:32 am by Lucario
Nintendo representatives have supposedly revealed to several retailers through a phone conference that the Wii price drop will take effect from Sunday September 27th. The US price is said to drop down to USD$199 which works out to roughly $230 in Australia. Nintendo are still yet to confirm the new price but with several retail sources all stating the same thing it really seems as though it is actually going ahead.
With the price cut of the Xbox360 several months ago and the new cheaper PS3 model released last week, it was only a matter of time before Nintendo needed to make a move of their own to ensure the Wii continues to stand strong amongst its competitors. Right now only America seems to be guaranteed the new cheaper price but it shouldn't be long before the rest of the world follows.

Watch them drop it by $10.
And remove the Wii console from the package.
EB had it for $297
I doubt they'll cut it down to $199 like they did with the GameCube, then again they weren't selling many...
However, knowing Nintendo Australia and the current GFC (global financial crisis for those playing at home), it's more likely to only be a $50 price drop here, $349.95.
