Nintendo's vice president of cooperate affairs, Denise Kaigler is interviewed by IGN every Friday and this weeks topic concerned the HD revolution. Considering that by the end of the year 71% of US households will own a HD TV, the Wii could be at quite a disadvantage compared to the competition. As usual all Kaigler affirmed was "As Mr. Iwata has said a number of times, we have no current plans to launch an HD version of Wii, but HD is one of the things we're keeping in mind for the future". Kaigler and other Nintendo reps have denied rumors in the past which later turned out to be totally true so we can't fully put the idea of a HD Wii to rest, we all know Nintendo will have to enter the market eventually.
The reason why the Wii wasn't originally fitted with HD support back in 2006 was because the HD install base was much lower then it is now. Nintendo felt it unfair to increase the price of the console just because it boasted specs not all consumers could enjoy yet would still have to pay for. Kaigler later mentions that games are all about the experience, not the pixels or type of TV they're played on. This is only strengthened when you look at games such as Wii Sports and Wii Fit have had such a big impact on people.

Is anyone really surprised by this at all? There was never going to be an HD Wii.

I think another reason why the Wii wasnt HD supported when it was released was because Nintendo didnt want to go all out with a new more expensive HD console with motion controls in case it bombed bigtime. Lucky for Ninty it was a gamble that payed off.

I don't care if the next Wii doesn't have HD capabilities, just as long as the graphics are updated.

there wont be a "next wii" i mean seriously nintendo are more creative, imo.
but their next console will be HD though i reckon. would be silly not to be with figures like that

HD to Nintendo = Bloom. What this new console needs is a serious bump mapping update. Give the characters cutting edge detail.

Shock, horror, gasp etc.
I think a blind man could've seen that coming.
News just in:
Nintendo announce a HD DS and call it HDSi. It comes with 2 smaller screens & 2.0 sound!
News just in:
Nintendo annonce HDSi WS. This is the widescreen version of the HDSi & you can plug in earphones!
It comes in 2 colours, red & green!
The sad thing is, my sarcasm could come true.

HD compatibility and a major graphical update would really have Nintendo jump close, if not top to the competition. Along with the typical updates it'd be likely to receive, it seems like that's all it'd need to catch up to Sony and Microsoft.

This basically means there won't be a HD version of the current Wii console (which would be a dumb decision anyway). Nintendo's next platform will definatly have HD support.

I dunno, I think a Wii 2 is a good idea, Nintendo can recycle all their Channels (Weather, Wii Shop, News, etc...) and can make the console backward supported with Wii games.

Ehh, I saw ditch all the gimmicky channels. Most notably the Everybody Votes channel, and possibly the Mii Contest Channel. I lost interest in those channels like, over a year ago.
The Photo Channel, while being a standard for the latest technology these days, seems kinda useless. I never use it. Ever.

I don't really think it needs HD i mean, if the games good, that's all i care as long as they put effort into gameplay and not make it shit but look fancy instead i'll be happy

i have a 52' tv and trying to look at most games on the wii is like looking at dogs balls. Maybe if developers had to put the same effort in the visuals on other systems they'd put the same effort into the rest of the game. I'm not talking about 1st or 2nd party titles... just absolutely everything else. grrrrrrrr
