Ubisoft sales down, Wii games not helping
Posted 1st of December, 2009 at 03:55 pm by Infernal Monkey
Ubisoft released their financial results today, with CEO Yves Guillemot confirming sales have seen a large drop, and that the company is now operating at a loss of €78 million ($127 million AUD). Wii games aren't selling too well, but Assassin's Creed II - an extremely high budget PS3/360 release that got a bigger marketing push than all of their Wii titles put together - is doing great. Well, fancy that.
"First week sales of Assassin's Creed II, up 32%, with positive initial indications for the second week, combined with an overwhelmingly warm reception from gamers, validates our strategy of developing bigger franchises," he said. "Based on this initial data, Assassin's Creed II looks well positioned to outstrip targets while our Wii games have got off to a more contrasted start in a less predictable market. Finally, sales of James Cameron's Avatar: The Game should benefit from the launch of the movie which is expected to be the biggest blockbuster of this holiday season."
Oh well, at least Rabbids Go Home and World Stage will do well. Hopefully. Maybe.

It's not the Wii's fault that Ubisoft saturated the market for these games. That's like blaming concoles in general for low DJ Hero sales, when the music game market is all but saturated.
Now, you just love to pump out the crap on the Wii - someone needs to tell Yves to spend €100 million on a Wii game, advertise the hell out if it, and then see how it sells...
