Sonic Classic Collection officially announced

Posted 2nd of December, 2009 at 06:30 pm by Infernal Monkey Infernal Monkey is online now

Popping up on various classification boards not too long ago, SEGA has officially unveiled the DS collection, due out in Europe and Australia next March.

The package contains Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic and Knuckles from the SEGA Mega Drive. It's not known if it'll feature the ability to join Sonic 3 together with Sonic & Knuckles for the complete adventure.

It also includes a save-state feature, letting players save their progress at any time. That's about it, extras include the same tired artwork and videos found in the other compilations, along with an advert for Sonic Chronicles.

Only thing that seems making it worth getting is the save function. Inability to save is what deterred me from finishing the first game.

Ha, me too. I never finished the 3rd either. The second one I finished once in my life...

I haven't played any of these since I was a kid so I might end up picking this up at some point.

I may get this, but SEGA recently released a similiar collection on the PC for $20.00, so I might pick that up instead.

Sonic 3 + K was the best one. I already have the GC collection though.

This collection really makes the GBA version even more pointless, considering this is probably emulated instead of poorly rewritten, and it even scales the graphics. They could have taken out the videos and replaced them with some of the Master System games though like Sonic Chaos. Either way I won't buy this.

And I thought the UK classification board confirmed the lock-on feature.

The only reason to buy this on DS and not Virtual Console in a PAL country is because of the 60Hz - 50Hz difference. This would be even more pointless in Japan and America, unless they aren't releasing it there...

Yeah the lack of saving kept me from ever finishing the first one. I have however finished the second one multiple times. Never played 3 + Knuckles all that much.

^this.

That said, being able to whip out sonic2 on the train would be pretty neat...

And I actually might consider picking this up, that is if I can get into the Sonic craze again like I did years ago...
Bought the first off the VC, liked it, couldn't save, deleted it. Hopefully this will win me back over. And a next gen Sonic game that doesn't suck.
