Sunsoft is back, Blaster Master VC-bound

Teaming up with startup studio Gaijinworks (co-developer of Miami Law), Sunsoft is set to make its return to the industry. Well actually, they never really left, but after the looming threat of bankruptcy in the late 90's, their output has only consisted of pachinko and mahjong games. Exciting! The team's first order of business is to bring Blaster Master to the Virtual Console, and there will apparently be some interesting announcements to be made within the next few weeks.

"This first Wii release is a great start, but there is one upcoming announcement in particular that will demonstrate just how serious Yoshida-san is about rebuilding the Sunsoft console gaming brand here. Game fans are going to be pretty happy when they hear about it – I know I was," said Victor Ireland, president of Gajinworks.

Blaster Master is a platformer/shooter/awesome game that explores the tough love between a boy and his radioactive frog. It's expected to hit the American VC service this month, with a PAL launch in 2010. Other Sunsoft IPs include Chameleon Twist and Aero the Acro-Bat.

I remember Chameleon Twist. Seeing it in the video shop that is, then renting something else instead :P
