The Grinder no longer Wii-exclusive

Posted 5th of February, 2010 at 01:38 pm by Infernal Monkey Infernal Monkey is offline

High Voltage's Left 4 Dead clone is now set to go head on with all the platforms that actually have Left 4 Dead. In an interview with IGN, company president Kerry Ganofsky revealed their plans to launch The Grinder on Wii, PC, PS3 and 360. Oh wait, L4D never made it to PS3. Wii and PS3, friends forever.

"Bringing our third internal IP to all the current-generation systems allows us to show off what our company can really do and get it into the hands of the most gamers," he said.

The Grinder's release date has also been pushed back, launching around Halloween 2011.

It's probably for the best for them to release the game multiplatform because I don't really see it selling too well on the Wii in the first pace sadly

Huh? There would have been better looking games on other systems anyway. If you don't want to buy games because they won't look as good as PC/Xbox/PS3 games...maybe getting a Wii wasn't for you.

When things are on multiple platforms, people will buy them on the platform they own. If they own more than one platform, they'll get the better version if there is one. That's always been the case, it's not an argument for exclusivity.

Well after the way The Conduit went.... who can blame them. huh?

Then again was it the sales or the advertising that ruined it.....?
HMMMM. Can't tell didn't see either.

Coming to think of it I don't think I saw one ad for the Conduit. But i've seen plenty for Wii Fit, Wii Sports Resort, Dsi(female appeal), and even an ad for New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

You see people take a chance on Nintedno with these exclusives and look what happens. Barely any advertising.... any build. Pretty poor sales cause they don't do anything about it once it's out.

And companies wonder why their games don't sell?

And for some stupid reason they think appealing to Multiplatform will help. Unless they're actually going to advertise it still wont help their game.

Sadly, when I read the original article, I laughed. Poor Wii didn't have the power to make the massive game that they dreamed up, so they needed to go to other systems.

Heh, and given the timing, they may have to compete with the totally hypothetical 'Left 4 Dead 3' at the same time.

By the time the game is released (which is ~20months away) PC's will be all the more powerful, leaving an even bigger gap between the Wii version and the HD system versions. Sad sad day for the Grinder. It was a nice idea, but ultimately doomed to fail.

I will still get it regardles of whether or not it's on other consoles.

If the controls are superior on the Wii than on the other consoles then I couldn't give a stuff if the graphics aren't jaw dropping, thats not what I bought a Wii for.

So what did you buy the Wii for?
Nintendo's games, or the promise of new exciting "motion control" for which barely
if any games actually use to decent effect?

You misunderstood me Gus, I'm pissed at the company in a way for doing this, i really like how they haven't been afraid to actually push the wii in both what it can do graphically and also popping mature games on it. Sure, there will be versions out on other consoles now than the wii, but imo they are not the true versions on how the game was originally created to be, so ill probably still get the wii version to play it the way it was trying to be designed if that makes sense Gus.

Have HV developed for the HD consoles yet? It will be interesting to see how those get pumped out. Also Bland, it may not use it in many games, but the sales, as well as microsofts and surprise surprise copying again sonys attempts at 'motion control' show the wii was doing something right, even when not getting it right at all.

I don't think it makes sense at all, actually. I think as soon as people start using meaningless phrases like "the true version" (also seen in "true gamers", "true sequels" and a host of others) they're just justifying often bigoted nonsense to themselves. The Wii version will still exist, and it will still be as good as they can make it. I don't see the need to slight any other versions just because they weren't in the original plan - the original plan is almost never what a game ends up being, for a start, and here the changes in the plan you're talking about (releasing the game on other platforms) are necessarily separate from the Wii version anyway. But hey, enjoy the game.

Different experiences that you can't replicate on the 360 or PS3 actually.

I didn't buy it for amazing graphics, I bought it for the different control scheme, unique titles, Nintendo exclusives and family fun games.
What you call fun could be different to what I perceive as fun.
I have a 2 year old daughter & she loves Mario as much as I do, where's the 360/PS3 version/comparison?
I bought my 360 for the driving, shooting and other generic games re-released every year with better graphics.
Thats what Sony & Microsoft are good at, I'm not knocking their consoles otherwise I wouldn't have bought one.

Sure, Nintendo might be focusing on the casual games at the moment, but for every 10 'family' games there is 1 good Nintendo experience that you just can't get on the other consoles.

Thats why I will buy The Grinder on the Wii & not the 360 as the control scheme tips it in favour of the Wii for me, as long as the controls are as customisable/fluid as The Conduit then the Wii wins.

JPW, problem is advertising can be very expensive. High Voltage could probably afford some subway posters, but probably not any worthwhile TV timeslots.

This is a shame, because this is probably what pushed back the release date and I was looking forward to playing it

I know, i've heard nothing but high praise for the game & by the sound of it, all deserved.
I'm waiting for Sony to drop their price before I get into yet another console with games backing up every week sitting there unplayed.
I'm struggling to keep up with my spending habits as it is.
