CING Files For Bankruptcy

Posted 8th of March, 2010 at 11:42 am by DarthHomer DarthHomer is offline

Welcome to the new week everybody! Let's kick it off with some otherwise depressing and really sad news. Data Max (via NeoGAF) are reporting that Japanese developer CING have filed for bankruptcy, with the company suffering liabilities of 256 Million Yen, or $3.1 million AUD.

It sucks that it's happened to such a talented developer. These are the guys responsible for Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (and it's sequel - Last Window), Trace Memory/Another Code (and its sequel - Another Code: R), Little Kings Story, two DS Monster Rancher games (with Tecmo) and the upcoming Again - also published by Tecmo. Sure, those games didn't exactly sell very well, but anyone who's played a CING title can easily tell you that those games were worth checking out.

Overall, it's terrible news. Maybe the next thing posted will be much happier.

Quite tragic news. I liked Another Code and Hotel Dusk on the DS. I still want to get Another Code R and Again (whenever that comes out) but I'm a bit disappointed since we may never get the sequel to Hotel Dusk but who knows?

I knew most of those games flopped, but didn't LKS do fairly well?

Is there any more detailed info on this?

Ugh, awful. CiNG has been one of my favourite developers over the past few years. Another Code: R's horrendous sales would have hit them hard. Hopefully Nintendo, Tecmo or MMV will scoop them up.

Oh well, there's still the localised version of Again to look forward to next month.

Aw, even their website is offline now.

No :( Not CING... I haven't got around to playing Another Code or any of their DS games, but LKS turned out amazingly.

Will Last Window still get a relase? :( This is horrible news....

Oh wow, this just ruined my day :(

Cing had some amazing ideas, and executed them brilliantly. It's such a shame, It really is.

Of late they have been on of my favourite developers (like infernal mentioned), I was looking forward to seeing what they had to offer us. LKS was amazing, and I have fond memories of Hotel Dusk and Another Code.

What a waste of talent.

I wonder if some other talented developer can get their hands on a series like Another Code. Atlus would be nice.

But if Atlus got them then they would take forever and a half to come out here >_>

Worst news ever. Another Code, Hotel Dusk and especially Little King's Story (I didn't know they were behind that :O) were brilliant. Still need to get AC:R, and I'm still hoping that The Last Window makes an appearance... I'm wearing my sadface now.

It's a sad day when an awesome developer files for bankruptcy while 505 Games still exists.

This is because you guys didn't buy their games. Bawww.

(the only CING game I've bought is LKS, which is the only one that sold well :p Would have bought more if I had a DS, but I don't! Did thingymabob: R for Wii come out in Australia, or just Europe?)

for some reason this feels like this is all my fault.

I knew I should of bought Little King's Story or even Hotel Dusk. Be cool if I just found a copy of HD actually. I can't find it anywhere.

Oh well. This is the porblem with the Wii the Casual World is taking over. The Core Developers seem to go unnoticed in that pile of shovelware.

Their games on the DS are pretty accesable though, right? I mean aren't they like adventure novels? Casuals love that.

I'd just like to thank my friends who bought me a copy of Another Code: R from Europe as a present.

This is certainly a sad day. I wish I had billions so I could just bankroll them.

I wonder what the likelihood of ninty helping them out would be? I mean they have produced some solid games sure they might not have sold great but I think it would be a pretty lame if they were just to fade away after giving us one of the most awesome characters ever.

I hope Last Window still sees the light of day somewhere in the english speaking world though.

I almost cried when I read this news article :(

All I can do is hope that some how they can get back up on their feet, or if another company (such as nintendo) will buy all the rights to the characters. If memory serves me right ashley from another code and the guy from hotel dusk made an appearence in brawl as stickers and trophies. If this is the case Nintendo could buy them and rescue the franchies. I do not want a franchise like another code just to die out, as that was seriously fantasic.

I do recall reading an article somewhere along the lines of someone in Cing mentioning that they would like to see a sequal to another code R, and more about Matt and his past/future.
