Square Enix's 'simplified' Final Fantasy adventure Mystic Quest Legend has been rated by the OFLC, pointing towards an upcoming Virtual Console release.
The Super Nintendo game was developed with the Western market in mind as an entry-level RPG. The battle system is toned down a tad, and players can save their game at any time, rather than desperately trying to reach a save point only to get killed by an enemy and hurl verbal abuse at the TV. Speaking of which, enemies are also clearly visible in dungeons - doing away with random battles.
Released in America and Japan as part of the Final Fantasy brand, this was the only game in the series to get a PAL release on SNES. But even then they dropped Final Fantasy from its name over here, opting to just call it Mystic Quest Legend. I remember being intimidated by the thick guide book Mattel (before Nintendo Australia even existed) bundled with it. So much so that I bought Plok! instead. Fascinating story.
Oh, and Mystic Quest Legend has some pretty awesome music.
