Nintendo to cut $100 off 3DS price, offers compensation to current owners
Nintendo in a surprise turn of events will be reducing the price of the Nintendo 3DS system globally in what appears to be an effort to increase sales. From August 12th 2011 the current Australian suggested price of $349.95 will drop down to $249.95 after only four months on sale.

Feeling ripped off for potentially paying up to $100 more for a Nintendo 3DS only recently? Well Nintendo are officially giving us original Nintendo 3DS owners the title of "Nintendo 3DS Ambassador" and will be showering us with gifts as a thank you/apology. In what appears to be an Australian exclusive initiative, the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Program will allow those who paid full price for a Nintendo 3DS to receive ten free NES titles and ten free Gameboy Advance titles from the Nintendo 3DS eShop. So not only do we have the option to download a total of 20 free games in the near future, Nintendo has just confirmed that NES and possibly Gameboy Advance games are on the way to the Nintendo 3DS eShop.

Starting September 1st 2011, Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors will be able to download 10 NES Virtual Console games for free on their Nintendo 3DS before they are available to the general public. These games include Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber and The Legend of Zelda. Each of these games will eventually also be made available to newer Nintendo 3DS owners but at a price.

By the end of 2011, Nintendo will also provide Ambassadors with 10 free Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games including Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare Inc.: Minigame Mania and Mario vs. Donkey Kong. These Gameboy Advance games will be available exclusively to Ambassadors with Nintendo not planning to release them to the general public via the Nintendo 3DS eShop, well not at this current time anyway.

If you've been on the fence about buying a Nintendo 3DS well now you can either save yourself $100 or score 20 free downloads off the eShop, half of which are exclusive. Only Nintendo 3DS owners who access the eShop before August 12th will be eligible to claim the free downloads.
